What excites you most about joining Gustavus Adolphus College?
I look forward to joining a small, close-knit community where I’ll have a chance to actually get to know the students and faculty I’m working with on a deeper level than I could at my previous large public university.
Briefly describe your professional interests.
I am broadly interested in hazards and disasters research with a focus on human-environmental interactions and risk communication. I approach these topics through mixed methods research and also leverage GIS and cartographic tools and techniques.
What aspects of teaching do you find most rewarding?
Advising students is certainly the most rewarding aspect of teaching to me. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the guidance and support from many professors and colleagues that worked with me during time in school. Many of those relationships have grown into lifelong friendships, and I hope to have the opportunity to develop those same kinds of relationships with my own students in the future.
What are you looking forward to exploring or engaging with in the Saint Peter community outside of your academic work?
I moved to Minnesota from Texas about two weeks ago so I”m looking forward to exploring everything the area has to offer. I’m eager to check out local businesses, parks, hiking trails, and anything my wife and I can take our daughter to see.
If you could have any superpower (related to your field or otherwise), what would it be and why?
I could have any superpower it would probably be super intelligence because with that you could figure out ways to anything else you wanted to accomplish.
If I had to pick a ‘”professional” related superpower it would be not needing to sleep so I could actually have enough time in the day to get things done!
