David Fienen

David Fienen (Music, retired) will present an organ recital at First Lutheran Church in Saint Peter on Sunday, January 21 at 4:00 p.m. This is part of a series of programs celebrating the recently renovated Hendrickson organ at the church. His program will include works by Dieterich Buxtehude, Felix Mendelssohn, Larry Long, and the Toccata in D Minor by J.S. Bach. In addition, he will play two compositions by Jan Bender, both composed in Saint Peter around the time the organ was installed. Bender’s Sonata was commissioned by First Lutheran for the inauguration of the Hendrickson organ and was premiered there by Fienen in 1981. Bender’s Partita on ‘O God, Our Help in Ages Past’ was written the first month he came to Gustavus to teach and is dedicated to Fienen. It was premiered by him at Calvary Lutheran Church in Edina in 1979. A freewill offering will be received for the ongoing maintenance of instruments in the church.
