Faculty Spotlight: Carlos Mejia Suarez

Carlos Mario Mejía Suárez (Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures) presented an artist talk and reading in Berlin, sharing excerpts from his fiction project “Scars of a Natural Bond.” His reading brought to life three narrative sequences that move between Colombian and broader Latin American landscapes, engaging themes of biography, horror, and history. The work traces imagined and real geographies—from Bogotá to Berlin and beyond—opening portals between memory and myth, city and wilderness, the personal and the surreal. The evening concluded with a conversation moderated by Dr. Angela Flury, German writer, translator, and emerita professor of Comparative Literature at DePauw University. Together, she and Mejía Suárez explored the experiences, influences, and imagery that shape his evolving body of fiction.
