What excites you most about joining Gustavus Adolphus College?
I’m excited to teach smaller, more personal lectures than before. I’m also looking forward to mentoring undergrad research, and Minnesota has abundant rocks for future projects!
Briefly describe your professional interests.
I study fossils from Earth’s early days, before dinosaurs or even fish. These fossils tell us how Earth changed from an oxygen-poor bacterial garden to the diverse planet we know and love today.
What aspects of teaching do you find most rewarding?
I enjoy connecting Earth Science topics to students’ lives, from the air they breathe to the ground they walk on. Even non-science majors learn how to observe and interpret their world using the same techniques as ground-breaking research.
What are you looking forward to exploring or engaging with in the Saint Peter community outside of your academic work?
I’m excited to share my research (and a pint) through public outreach events.
If you could have any superpower (related to your field or otherwise), what would it be and why?
Time travel, so I could go back and see Earth’s prehistory in person!
