Elizabeth Baer serves as a volunteer at the United Sates Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. In this capacity, she revises and originates articles for the Museum’s online encyclopedia. Recently, she completed revising 26 articles on Displaced Persons (DP) camps set up for refugees after WWII. She has also written the FIRST article for the encyclopedia on the Herero and Nama genocide, committed by the Germans in their colony in Africa. This article is forthcoming soon. Additionally, Professor Baer created an extensive annotated bibliography about that genocide for the Museum’s library website. You can see the bibliography online. As a result of these contributions by Professor Baer, the USHMM has officially changed its language and now refers to the Herero and Nama genocide as the FIRST genocide of the 20th century, rather than the Armenian genocide (1915) which was previously called the first of the 20th century.
