Elizabeth Baer gave a keynote address at the LeFrak Holocaust Education Conference in Pittsburgh on October 22. The theme of this year’s conference was “Women, the Holocaust, and Genocide.” Elizabeth presented new research, comparing sexual violence in Germany’s colony, German Southwest Africa, between 1885-1908, and in the Nazi Holocaust. Her talk was entitled “Gender under the Genocidal Gaze: Africa, 1904, and Ravensbrück, 1941.” The talk builds upon her recently published book, The Genocidal Gaze: From German Southwest Africa to the Third Reich.
