Lisa Heldke served as the Distinguished Speaker for the Society for the Anthropology of Food and Nutrition meeting, held in conjunction with the annual American Anthropological Association conference held in Minneapolis. Her talk, on November 21, was entitled “It’s Chomping All the Way Down: Guts, Dirt and Fundamental(ish) Metaphysical Categories.” No one threw up.

Lisa Heldke was the featured speaker at Macalester College’s observation of World Philosophy Day, an annual event created by UNESCO to recognize the value of philosophy in the contemporary world. Her talk was entitled “We’re All Parasites: Eating, Guts, and Fundamental Metaphysical Categories. Astonishingly, despite the title, refreshments were still enjoyed by the audience.
