Alberto Urquidez has been selected as one of this year’s “Young Philosophers” by the Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University. He will be sharing his research on racism at the Institute in November.

Lisa Heldke and her collaborator Cynthia Belliveau (University of Vermont) delivered the keynote address at “The Meaning of Food: An Interdisciplinary Conference on Representations of Food in the Arts and Humanities,” held in Greensboro, NC. Lisa Heldke served as an invited commentator for the Coss Lecture, an honorary lecture presented as part of the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy annual conference. She also participated in an invited symposium at the University of Toronto, on the topic “Writing About Food in Memory and Imagination.”

Lisa Heldke published an entry, “John Dewey and Pragmatist Feminist Philosophy,” in the Oxford Handbook of Dewey.

Tommy Valentini lectured and presented at Whittier College. Valentini was selected in conjunction with an Andrew Mellon Foundation grant supporting Whittier’s effort to expand the liberal arts of organizational leadership. Valentini’s lectures included “Let’s Make Sport Really Matter,” and “Moral Development in and Through Sport.”

Lisa Heldke (Philosophy) was invited to deliver the Carus Lecture at Concordia College, Moorhead. Her talk was entitled “Stuck on You: Thinking Parasitically.”

Lisa Heldke co-teaches the UVM John Dewey Kitchen Institute with Cynthia Belliveau every June. In the program, they emphasize the pedagogical power of the kitchen and how to use cooking to teach any topic within a frame of collaboration and cooperation. Alberto Urquidez wrote a paper, On Glasgow’s Descriptive Theory of Racism: The Case for Pluralism, has been accepted for presentation at the 63rd Annual Meeting of the Florida Philosophical Association.
