Ursula Lindqvist (Scandinavian Studies) has received two external grants to conduct archival research during her sabbatical on Swedish settler immigration to, and settlement in, Minnesota around the time of Gustavus’ founding. The first is an international research grant funded by the Linnaeus University Centre for Concurrences in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies and The Swedish Emigrant Institute in Växjö, Sweden. Ursula will spend October in Sweden conducting research and participating in workshops at the Centre, and she will give a public lecture, “Vad visste Moberg om urfolket i Minnesota? (What did Moberg know about Indigenous people in Minnesota?)” at The House of Emigrants in Växjö on Oct. 17. The second grant is the Dagmar & Nils William Olsson Visiting Scholar Award from the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. Ursula will spend several weeks at Augustana in November to conduct research in the Eric Norelius collection and host a workshop on her research topic, “Unsettling History and Mission at a Swedish Institution on Dakota Lands.”
