Marcia J. Bunge (Religion) was at Duke University for a meeting of the North American Forum for Luther Research. She presented a paper on the misuse and weaponization of Dietrich Bonhoeffer by the religious right and Christian nationalists today. Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran theologian and anti-Nazi dissident who was executed on orders from Hitler at Flossenbürg concentration camp. Last week, events here and abroad marked the 80th anniversary of Bonhoeffer’s execution.
