Marcia J. Bunge (Religion) co-wrote an op-ed with seven leading scholars… from the USA and Germany, which was published in German’s leading newspaper, DIE ZEIT, on October 17. The statement warns against the misuse of Dietrich Bonhoeffer (a Lutheran theologian who challenged the Nazi regime and was executed in 1945) to promote political violence and Christian nationalism today. Numerous scholars and faith leaders, including Dr. Miroslav Volf (Yale University) and Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton (Presiding Bishop of the ELCA), have supported the statement.
